General Information & Rules/Procedures for Members & Visitors. Updated25/3/2023 Email:- ramblers.newport@gmail.com Newport Ramblers Club was formed in 1933 and is affiliated to the Ramblers Association. It is a friendly club and always welcomes new members of all ages and abilities. The club has a range of walks, covering coast, lowland, hills and mountains. ‘A’ walks take place on Saturdays and meet at Tregare Street, Newport at 10:00am. All walks MUST be booked with the ldeader by Thursday evening at the latest. Check club web site for any last minute changes to the walk information on the Friday before the walk. Contact the walk leader for any information required. Walks are of varying lengths 5 to 9 miles. They are graded as easy, moderate or strenuous. ‘B’ walks take place on Saturdays and meet at the start point of the walk. Walk start times are variable, please check walks programme on club web site for start times . Check club web site for any last minute changes to the walk information on the Friday before the walk. Contact the walk leader for any information required. Walks are 4 to 5 miles in length and are classed as easy/moderate. More details can be found on our WALKS PROGRAMME, WEBSITE OR CONTACT THE LEADER. Walk grades: Easy (taken at a more easy pace & have some ascents) Moderate (taken at a steady pace & have some steeper ascents) Strenuous (taken at a steady pace & have some steep uphill sections/longer walks) Grades are provided as a general guide only. If not on the walks programme or the website please contact the walk leader for more details on walk grades. Throughout the year, the club also organises several events. The Newport Ramblers Club is run on a voluntary basis, managed by an elected committee, all our leaders and organisers are volunteers. There are four committee meetings per year and an AGM per year. Rules/advice & Procedures. Annual joining fee: collected at the beginning of the calendar year. To be covered by the club’s Combined Liability Insurance you must be a member of Newport Ramblers Club. The Ramblers Association membership does not cover membership of Newport Ramblers Club. Possible new members will be covered by the club’s Combined Liability Insurance for three taster walks. Visitors are not covered by the club’s Combined Liability Insurance. Should you leave a walk early, your Combined Liability Insurance will be invalid from the time of leaving. If an accident or incident occurs, the leader/organiser must be informed immediately. No automatic medical or personal accident cover (this is a different type of insurance policy in its own right ) is provided by Club’s Combined Liability Insurance. Compensation is claimed by the injured person through the Clubs Combined Liability Insurance Walk leaders may cancel or change walks at short notice. If possible these changes are posted on our web site. Ensure that you are fit and well before joining a walk, the organiser/leader may refuse to accept participants who in their opinion are unfit/unwell. You will be advised//invited to join them on a future event. Members/Taster Walkers/Visitors are strongly advised to carry an ICE card (In Case of Emergency). The club can provide a card and wallet for members who should always carry them. Visitors/taster walkers, if no ICE is carried you are strongly advised to tell a friend, companion or the leader an emergency contact number and if any medication is carried for any emergency that may affect them during the walk e.g. insulin, inhalers, allergic reactions to stings etc Names & addresses will be taken by the leader. Sensitive information will not be recorded. E.g. medical problems Children and young people under 18 Must be accompanied by an adult who holds parental responsibility, such as a parent, legal guardian or teacher, youth worker. Accompanying adult has sole responsibly for direct care and supervision. Volunteers cannot provide direct care and supervision to people under 18. Only one child accompanied by one adult who has parental responsibility can attend activities. Vulnerable adult is someone over 18. Must be accompanied by an adult if necessary. If you need specific help in order to participate in an activity you must be accompanied by another adult such as a carer or support worker who takes responsibility for your care. Volunteers cannot provide direct care and supervision to anyone with a specific need. Appropriate clothing should be worn/carried on all walks to cover varying weather conditions/terrain and that walking boots or walking shoes should be worn to minimise risks. The leader may refuse to accept participants who in their opinion are inadequately equipped and you will be advised to join them on a future event. Always bring food & drink. A dog coming on a walk is at the leaders discretion. The dog is the sole responsibility of the person accompanying the dog and must be kept on a short lead at all times.. At the start of a walk/event the leader/organiser will give a talk/ information sheet on safety and procedures. For your own and others safety, please read and abide by any advice and guidelines issued by the club, organisers and verbal instructions of the walk leader. If you have any concerns about the behaviour of any one participating in an activity, such as abusive, threating or inappropriate behaviour, raise this discreetly with the walk leader or organiser. If you have concerns that a child or vulnerable person is being place in danger or abused, you can raise this with your local authority If you suspect that anyone is ever in immediate danger call the police. Persons participating in walks or any other club activity are reminded that they do so entirely at their own risk Privacy Policy. Summary Newport Ramblers Club takes the privacy of our members very seriously, we will use your personal data only for club administration purposes including communicating with you about your membership and for communication with members about walks and other club activities. The club will adhere to the current General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Any person who has given personal details and data consent to Newport Ramblers Club can change the details or opt out at any time by contacting the Membership Volunteer. |
